Here’s what being at temperatures well below zero means - Everything is frozen!

And I mean everything. Including boiler and clothes drier exhausts! The white boiler exhaust structure is more complex than it looks. It is both the exhaust and the combustion air inlet. There are two pipes, one inside the other. The exhaust goes out of the outside pipe and exits toward the house at the big side of the cone, preheating the inlet air in the inside pipe. The large exhaust pipe runs from 120 °F when the boiler is doing infloor heating to 175° when it is heating the hot water tanks. It freezes instantly. The inlet air comes in the small outlet in the center of the cone, farther from the house, so we don’t cross the streams!
