Martin was quite surprised that the concrete truck driver was willing to go all the way down to the south end of the east access road, but he made it with no problems! That sped up the pour a lot. The foundation boss had brought up a big enough crew to wheelbarrow the concrete all the way around the house, but that wasn’t needed. So, the big crew just emptied the truck really, really, quickly.
First, a few corrections to the rebar had to be made. To take the load of the elevator steel cage frame, there had to be double rebar spaced 3” apart all the way around the curb. The rebar needed to be exactly placed so that the large anchors didn’t hit it. Then the freeze protection foam had to go all the way to top of slab. It will be covered by metal.
Then the patio slab is only anchored at the right side to the foundation walls. The rest of it floats, so the elevator foundation can’t be pinned to it.
Yipes! At 10:20 AM, they were already well started! Martin did not expect the driver to be so quick to get to here. The crew immediately started work, so Martin had to dash out to the upper level south deck to shoot this.
Martin got down to the site at 10:24 and they were almost done unloading the concrete truck. It only took them about 10 minutes to unload the 1 yard of concrete needed.
