Martin starts each day off with some tea. Today’s is an interesting one, Upton Tea’s Yunnan Gold (https://www.uptontea.com/yunnan-black-tea/loose-leaf-china-black-tea/p/V01211/)
First you have to measure the loose leaf tea. This is an extremely bold leaf tea, which means that the tea leaves are mostly whole. Another tea that Martin likes is the Bond Street English breakfast blend (https://www.uptontea.com/breakfast-tea-blends/english-breakfast-loose-leaf-black-tea/p/V00087/) which is much finer. So, the only way to accurately measure these wildly varying teas is to weigh them The Upton Tea scale is set to measure cups and the minumum amount of water theBreville automatic tea pots can handle is 500 ml or about 3 standard tea cups. Martin does like a bit of a strong cup of tea! This just doesn’t get bitter so you can brew it up really strong!
Here’s the automatic tea maker in action! It has to bet set to only brew at 190°F because water up here at 6,500 feet boils at about 195°F and if you set it above 190, it aborts off sometimes. It’s set for 6 minutes and told to cycle the basket up and down to make a stronger cup of tea.
Here’s what the Yunnan Gold looks like. It’s amazing that these light yellow leaves brew up a rich dark cup of tea.
And here’s what it looks like after. Completely dark and looking just like normal tea.
