Today started out pitch black without a hint of sunrise. Then, all of a sudden it changed to a really neat sunrise. Just a complete surprise. You could really smell the wood smoke this morning too.
The thick clouds were very low on the eastern horizon, so it didn’t take too long for the sun to clear them. Sunrise was at 6:08 AM this morning and this was shot at 6:25 AM.
This time the smoke that pushed us into level 2 is coming from some fires on the west slope. That’s probably why it smelled so smokey this morning, the smoke hadn’t traveled very far. This map is at https://fire.airnow.gov/ .
Right in the middle is Denver and you can see the fires on the west slope. They’re small, so the smoke plumes aren’t very big. Map is at https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/usfs/map/#d:24hrs;@-103.6,38.4,6.3z .
