December 19, 2025

This was a day for the history books! The weather station recorded a 77.6 mph wind gust! This is a big page, remember to scroll to the bottom to see it all. There’s a lot of data here.

The winds caused Three power outages. The first one went from 9:06:07 AM until 9:50:14 AM. The second one went from 11:15:26 AM until 1:51:41 PM. The last one started at 3:46:57 PM and the power is still out as of 7:30 AM on 12/20/2025, when Martin started this page (I write as though I was creating the page in real time, so you can really get a feel for the days events). PVREA had power poles knocked over, so power will be out for a while. Once the power is restored, Martin will update this page with the restored time.

Here are some of the top wind speeds reported in Colorado on Friday from Denver Channel 7:

112 MPH — 3 NW Marshall, Boulder, CO 110 MPH — Sunshine, Boulder, CO

102 MPH — 2 WNW Niwot, Boulder, CO

99 MPH — 1 NE Crisman, Boulder, CO

97 MPH — 1 S Wallstreet, Boulder, CO

96 MPH — 2 SW Hygiene, Boulder, CO

95 MPH — 1 NE Crisman, Boulder, CO

95 MPH — 3 S Carter Lake, Larimer, CO

94 MPH — 3 N Berthoud Pass, Grand, CO

92 MPH — 5 N Boulder, Boulder, CO

90 MPH — 1 SSW Brookvale, Clear Creek, CO

90 MPH — 6 S Lyons, Boulder, CO

Yep, Lyons saw 90 mph! I believe that Marshall set a new record for wind on the plains. According to the Estes Park Trail Gazette, the all time record for Colorado is 201 mph,was set in 2021 at the top of Longs Peak! We’re 19 miles from there.

Update: Power was restored 12/20/2025 11:49:53 AM MST. So, we were on generator for about 20 hours this time, while PVREA installed new poles. That’s a total of about 24 hours on the generator yesterday and today.

This is what the weather station sent to Wunderground. Look at how long the wind was above 30 mph!

This is the weather station’s local log. This time it agrees perfectly with Wunderground.

We were definitely under wind and fire warnings.

PVREA has some large outages! We’re in the red 952 bubble.

Xcel, supplying more of the high wind areas on the eastern plains, really got clobbered.

This was shot starting at 1:08 PM, when a 66 mph gust occurred.

This was shot starting at 1:26 PM, when the wind was at about 60 mph.
