The glass guys, from Hillcrest Glass (https://hillcrest-glass.com), started mounting the elevator shaft window mounting hardware today. How it works is a bit confusing, since the top half, what the installers call the “Beauty Cap” hasn’t arrived yet.

Here’s a closeup of the aluminum extrusions that are being mounted today. All of the mounting hardware is this same extrusion. If the glass were mounted with the extrusion in the position above, the glass would lie flat on the deck, one double pane assembly on each side.

These are mounted on the outside of the steel.

There are so many pieces to install and so many screws holding each piece that it was easier to setup the scafolding than try to do this on ladders.

Here’s a shot after everything was done. This will make the following detail shots a little clearer, Martin hopes.

Here’s how each hole for the mounting screws is drilled.

First thing that has to be done is install the Protectowrap (https://protectowrap.com), which is actually made here in Colorado. This does two things, it prevents galvanic corosion between the steel frame and aluminum extrusions and it waterproofs the joint.

Martin thought that the vertical and horizontal window mounts had somehow gotten out of plane. The optical illusion that the vertical is standing out farther than the horizontal is really convincing, but, as the ruler shows, everything is in plane.
