The first part of the elevator shaft steel has been placed, but not fastened down. The shaft was designed as two pieces, with the deck I beams between them.
Here’s the two pieces, nested together on the trailer.
Ooops! We weren’t quite ready to place the steel. First the old studs that held the deck framing had to be removed. Dave the Welder is using an abrasive disk the cut the studs off.
Now the area has to be ground smooth, so it’ll look right.
More grinding on a different stub of stud.
We can see the top of the new I beam, its the grey piece of steel. It needs to be welded to the existing I beam.
Here’s the new steel, looking north at it. The upper part of the elevator enclosure frame is on the ground on the right.
Here’s the new steel, viewed looking west. The architects lined up the horizontal pieces to match the existing windows.
