The elevator guys have been very busy and our elevator is waiting on parts, so they’ve just been doing half days. Today was the installation of the overspeed governor.
To detect actual overspeed of the cab, the governor is mounted to the cab itself and driven by a cogged belt.
A bit of the cogged belt. This runs from the top to the bottom of the shaft.
Here is the Overspeed Governor mounted on the cab.
A better shot of the governor than Martin was able to get on Elevator assembly day 4. It expects the elevator to run at a nominal speed of 0.15 meters/second and shuts the elevator down if it sees the cab move faster than 0.3 meters/second.
The cogged belt top mount is complicated because it has a switch that senses if the belt breaks. Yep, the safety gear has safety gear.
