A short day today, the elevator people got a call for emergency service and had to leave just before noon. It was an exciting day though, the motor controller was powered up and the cab was moved for the first time!

The motor is now hooked up to the controller.

This is the shaft encoder that tells the controller how much the axel has rotated. This will be installed on the right end of the axel.

It is an Autonics EPM50S8-1013-B-PN-24-S optical encoder.

This is the overspeed governor. It’s completely independent and will be mounted on the left side of the axel. It’s made by Luezar Eco in Spain. They specialize in Safety Engineering for elevators and lifts.

Here’s what all those wires do. There are 18 in each of the gray and black cables.

Here’s the first move of the cab. It’s much slower than normal operating speed. They’ve got the controller set to modified leveling speed.
