A really big day! At looong last the elevator is close enough to operational for the inspector to officially observe it being tested. The test will probably knock things awry, so the elevator mechanics will have to do final adjustments if the elevator passes today’s tests, but we’re almost there!

The setup for the testing - 12 45 pound weights are loaded for a total of 540 pounds, more than will ever be in the elevator while operating normally.

They’ve lifted the cab with our floor jack and a 4 x 4 so the cables are slack and the slack sensors should have set the brakes. At 28 seconds the jack is lowered and you can see the cab move about an inch, which is small enough to make the inspector happy! So, it passed!! That much weight did pull the cab out of square a bit, so it will indeed need adjusting.
