Tuesday, July 21, 2026 Hummer Update

    We’re staying pretty busy, about 500 birds a day, it will pick up soon as more of this years babies leave the nest. Also, a bit of inside baseball…

This was shot starting at 7:17 AM. The chaos is pretty intense and we had one of the walls fall. Didn’t lose any syrup this time, sometimes the feeders slide down like this and hit fairly gently.

I’ve got July 1 - July 21 selected in the Birds/day column and Apple’s Numbers spreadsheet calculates the sum, average, min, max and cell count at the bottom. So our average, thus far in July is 434 birds/day.

Here’s the bit of inside baseball. How do we know how much syrup to make and how to make it? That’s where the above spreadsheet comes in. If we need to fill 4 walls, we need 2.5 cups of sugar (Martin is now weighing it, and has added the pounds and ounces note) and 5 cups of water.
