March 25, 2026 The Glitter Field

    We pass by what we call the Glitter Field on the way into town. The conditions today were perfect, clear sky, lots of sun still high enough for it to really show off.

This is an area of exposed Pike’s Peak granite, we think. In any case it’s granite that cooled extremely slowly and therefore has enormous mica flakes in it. The camera just doesn’t do it justice. In person it looks like a field of diamonds!
