Friday, October 9, 2026 Last Day of Fire Mitigation

Working on the area to the west of the house. There’s a lot of room at the top, but the slope down from the road is too steep for the Giant. The winch was used to pull the trees up to the road, then the Giant quickly loaded them into the chipper.

Before starting the day, the chipper’s blades need to be inspected. Although there was some damage, they weren’t quite bad enough to need replacing.

You can also see the space between the blade and the anvil, which determines how thick the chips are.

One of the bigger trees that had to go just right, so the back cut was interspersed with wedge work to get the direction of the fall precise.

When the trees are small and there are two saws going, 3 trees in a minute!

Now you get to see the Giant with plenty of room to work. Wow!

The last tree! This one was leaning up slope and it had to go down slope. This is beyond what wedges can do. The only thing that would work was a rope guided fall.

Martin was a bit too close!
