Although 3 object calculations are problematic, let’s see what “Odds & Evens” can tell us. Unlike many gear in gear and ring patterns, all of those patterns have, not easily, but countable points.

The two point pattern in red at the bottom right:

The 96 ring - 48 gear is, of course, a 2-point pattern. The 24 - 19 is mutually prime so it is a 24-point pattern. Simply multiplying them together gives the expected 48 points in the pattern.


The three point pattern in blue at the top right:

The 120 - 80 ring is a 3 point pattern. The 24 - 13 is a 24 point pattern. 3 x 24 = 72.


Well, well, it looks like the formula for 3 object calculations is just pattern 1 points x pattern 2 points.
