ESCONDIDO—“The Scarlet Pimpernel” is making it debut at Welk Resorts Theater, showing now through April 26 at the theater located in the Welk Resort, at 8860 Lawrence Welk Drive.

The show, which features comic dialogue, daring rescues, a thrilling sword fight and moving ballads, is the story of Sir Percy Blakeney, an English aristocrat who discovers that his beautiful French wife, Marguerite (Michaelia Leigh) has betrayed his friend who has fallen victim to “Madame Guillotine.”

To avenge his friend, Sir Percy disguises himself as the Scarlet Pimpernel and recruits his closest friends to fight the French Reign of Terror.

Citizen Chauvelin repeatedly attempts to capture the Pimpernel, but he is outwitted by the mysterious hero.

New to the Welk stage are Allan Snyder as Percy and Matthew Tyler as Chauvelin. Snyder performed on Broadway in the final cast of “Les Miserables” and at the Moonlight Amphitheater in “West Side Story.”

Leigh returns to Welk after touring Europe in “That’s Hollywood,” “Twisted TV,” and “Sing It and Swing It.”

Ticket prices for “The Scarlet Pimpernel” range from $44 to $47 for performance only and $58 to $63 for buffet and show packages. Some matinee performances are being offered, at 1:45 p.m. Evening performances are offered Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8 p.m.
